The Painted Pianos are back for the Summer of 2019!
The summer tradition of the Springfield Cultural Partnership’s colorful Painted Pianos across Springfield is back for another warm and sunny season! With three new pianos and three returning pianos joining the streets of Springfield, summer is looking brighter than ever.
An array of talented local musicians will be offering lunchtime concerts on Fridays. The Springfield Symphony Orchestra’s Conductor Kevin Rhodes will grace the keys of the piano at 1350 Main Street on July 12 from noon to 1pm. Mark your calendars for his special Painted Piano performance.
Three pianos painted by Jack Delvin, Sheldon Smith, and Robert Markey will be returning to the city. Delvin’s sleek aqua and silver design will appear on the Springfield Museum Quadrangle. Smith’s blue and green jazz inspired work will be placed at Monarch Place. Markey’s rainbow creation will take up residence on 1350 Main Street.
Also being placed are three new pianos. These instruments will bring a vivacious feel to the streets, each painted by a local artist. These Springfield artists, Marc Austin, Dr. Gloria Caballer-Arce, and Rebecca Fite, will bring new style and creative life to the city. Austin’s piano will be placed at Forest Park Library’s Reading Garden on Belmont Avenue. Fite’s work will be set up at the Shops at Marketplace. Caballer-Arce’s piano will find a home within Mass Mutual to be thoroughly enjoyed by employees.
